Xavi L. Aguirre
Surrounding us in a site-specific installation, Xavi L. Aguirre complicates our relationships with plastic proofing materials. These materials attempt to hermetically seal us from moisture, heat, and other threatening elements, which preserve us in time. Appropriating theatrical scenographies and club cultures, Aguirre creates a space of material entanglements that exemplify how repellant architectural tactics can attract and envelop us, suggesting a collapse between protection and endangerment. Aguirre invokes tactile relationships with the built environment through physical intimacies echoed in the immersive environments. Straddling two galleries, this multimedia installation probes future-proofing through scales of consumption.
